- We aim to work with parents to encourage the emotional, social, physical, creative and intellectual development of children, reaching their full potential.
- We aim to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum that provides young people with the best possible learning opportunities and experiences
- We aim to encourage all children to develop positive attitudes to self and others and activities and relationships will help to build confidence and self –esteem.
Objectives
- To allow all children of various abilities and cultures to learn to respect each other through play situations.
- Through community awareness, nature and science we aim to expand each child’s knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
- We strive to provide every child’s emotional welfare and security during their time in nursery. We promote positive relationships with parents and carers by offering an open door policy.
- Each child will be treated as an individual with individual needs. Activities and curriculum planning will be applied to identify individual needs.
Enrolling in Oranges and Lemons Private Day Care NurseriesAdmissionWhen looking for a placement for your child, we encourage all parents to come and view our nurseries. This gives parents the opportunity to ask questions and have a chat with the Lead Practitioner and the staff.
We recommend two visits before a child starts in the nurseries. During the first visit parents will complete the registration forms and have the opportunity to discuss their child’s individual needs while their child can explore the nursery environment. The second visit is for approximately one hour and is when the child is usually left in the care of the staff. If required, further settling-in visits can be arranged to ensure a smooth transition for both children and parents as we understand that this can be an anxious time for all.
What your child will need in nursery
It is recommended that all children have at least one set of spare clothes with them as quite often the activities we do can be messy. For babies and young children we ask that you provide nappies and nappy cream if required. During the summer months your child will need sun cream and a sun hat. In the winter we still spend time outdoors so your child will need a warm coat, hat, scarf and gloves.
Nursery supplies of spare clothing etc are very limited so it is important that these items are supplied.
What Happens in Oranges and Lemons Snacks and Meals
Each of our nurseries has a qualified cook who provides nourishing, freshly cooked food prepared on the premises. Our menus are on display and we ensure that any dietary requirements are catered for. Morning and afternoon snacks always include fresh fruit and the children have a choice of milk or water to drink throughout the day. Snacks and meals are included in nursery fees.
Age Groups and ActivitiesEach of our nurseries has an area for each age group of children to ensure that they are provided with the highest quality of care and experiences. Within each of these areas the activities are planned for the age and stage of each child with knowledgeable staff there to ensure they are meeting the needs of the individual children.
Each of these age groups have a set ratio of staff to children. These are as follows:
- Babies and Toddlers 0-2 years – ratio 1:3
- Children 2-3 years – ratio 1:5
- Children 3-5 years – ratio 1:8
Preschool Education Funding
Our nurseries are also in partnership with Dundee City Council who provides funding for pre-school places. The decision to allocate funding is made by Dundee City Council. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 years may be eligible for pre-school funding and the amount of funding depends on the number of sessions that the child attends nursery per week. Allocated funding is deducted from fees from approximately the middle of August to the end of June. Funding for children who attend less than 5 sessions will receive funding pro rata and funding can only be applied for at certain times of each year.
